Asian Pacific region tops global office attendance rates: JLL
New office participation mandates and evolving hybrid protocols have caused workforces putting in even more time in the workplace. A year-long report carried out by JLL spanning over 20,000 office workers internationally shows that as of 1H2023, 80% of staff members were spending three or more days weekly in the office, compared to 51% in 1H2022 and 59% in 2H2022. “In general, most global organisations around the world (87%) are motivating their employees to operate from the workplace at least some of the time,” JLL includes.
JLL’s research study suggests that, regardless of a global go back to the workplace, Asia Pacific (Apac) staff members are in the office than their counterparts in the United States and UK. In a Dec 1 press release, the consultancy notes that while workplace presence in the US and UK averages approximately 2 days a week, Apac countries illustrate greater presence, averaging over 4 days each week.
On average, staff members internationally spend just over three days each week in the workplace, with optimal attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, states JLL. It includes that variances in office presence throughout different industry are greatly because of a mix of social nuances, living setups and various other structural variables.

In the Apac area, Taiwan leads with people attending the office 4.7 days a week, followed by India (4.4 days), South Korea (4.2 days), Japan (3.8 days), and Singapore (3.4 days). Thailand records a weekly workplace attendance of 3.3 days, while Australia ranks at 3.1 days.
Koul suggests creating dynamic spaces dealing with collaborative and focused job to meet workers’ ongoing need for human connection. He includes this will be the most efficient strategy to motivate regular office attendance.
As in-office assumptions continue, workplace presence is expected to raise. JLL adds that employees value the office space as a hub for socialisation, innovation and professional growth. “The office has actually been, and will still be, central to work experience and society,” stated Susheel Koul, JLL’s chief executive officer of work dynamics, Asia Pacific.
